In March 2017, United Way of Treasure Valley launched the Basic Needs Pantry Project. With help from Leadership Boise participants, United Way built a special section in its Boise office to house hygiene items, shelf-stable foods and new clothing necessities, like socks and underwear. The Basic Needs Grant program supports organizations providing vital services to members of our community. Lake Area United Way (LAUW) defines “basic needs” as food, housing, shelter, utility assistance, clothing, mental health and legal assistance (related to a basic need).

Across Michigan, 43 percent of households struggle to afford the basic necessities of housing, child care, food, technology, health care and transportation.
